Some people believe racism in schools ended a long time ago. Statistics show that racism is still a huge problem. “Racism occurs in explicit forms such as name-calling, teasing exclusion, verbal abuse and bullying in schools”(Brice). For many years racism has been an big issue all around and found its way into schools. “It has been acknowledged that racism can have a profound effect on students, teachers and generally the overall school atmosphere”(Brice). Elementary, middle, and high schools has this racial problem that goes on. Racism takes on a huge impact in schools because of set limitations, desires to be around people like themselves, and background.

Set limitations have big impacts on students based on their school experiences. Good and bad set limitations determine the outcome on a child racial experiences that may have occurred. While a direct “cause and effect” link is difficult to establish, many studies have suggested that some children may be vulnerable to indirect racial messages(Television’s Impact On Kids 2016). Things such as a desire to be around others like themselves because of previous traditional views. Hanging with one particular race at the lunch table, hanging with others who has the same common appearance as themselves has caused various problems dealing with racism in school also. Background can cause some racial actions between students and teachers in a school environment because of various situations. “Americans simultaneously believe that schools are places where social inequalities should be equalized, where the advantages or disadvantages that children experience in their homes and families should not determine what happens to them in school-in essence, that school is a place where children should have equal chances to make the most of their potential”(Burkam).
