The commonwealth of Kentucky saw its fair share of action during the civil war. General john hunt Morgan lead many confederate raids on Kentucky. In this paper you will learn about these raids and one dedicated confederate general who loved his confederate states of America.

The first raid was a surprise attack at 5:00 am on July 9th, 1862, in tompkinsville, ky against the union soldiers. The factor causing this raid was the need for supplies. Morgan and his raiders acquired 20 wagon, 50 mules,40 Calvary horses, sugar and coffee. Morgan and his men successfully captured the union soldiers camp after only two hours.

Morgan and his men marched to the union supply depots in Glasgow and lebanon. These raids caught the attention of president Lincoln. He quickly sent federal troops to the "stamped in Kentucky". Morgan and his men moved quickly through the commonwealth including Harrodsburg, lawrenceburg, Versailles, Georgetown and Cynthiana. Morgan and his men planned to raid and Destroy the town, but when they arrived in Cynthiana they got more than they bargained for. 350 federal troops were waiting for them. Morgan was expecting 450 inexpeirianced home guards. Morgan began placing his men along Licking River. Morgan successfully operated behind enemy lines. This raid was known as the Christmas raid. The destruction caused by this raid left train bridges, several union supply depots,water stations and large sections of railroad tracks in burnt ruins. Morgan and his raiders destroyed 2 million dollars worth of union supplies. With federals closing in Morgan needed an escape plan so he quickly move through campbellsville, Columbia and Burksville fleeing back into
