The Compromise of 1877 brought reconstruction to the end by a lot of different ways. Reconstruction started when the Civil War ended. During reconstruction Abraham Lincoln was trying to bring the US back together. In December 1863 he had a plan but it contained banning slavery. It didn't go through with Congress, they took it then they took it out for a period of time. After that the Civil war ended on April 9, 1865. Then Abraham Lincoln died. Then Andrew Johnson took Abraham Lincoln's place. Andrew Johnson sorta went with Lincoln's plan. Later in the midwest there was the Black Code, other states made their own code.
