At noon, the Yorktown launched scout planes to search for any remaining survivors of the Kido Butai, as the final Japanese carrier, the Hiryu, launched all of its torpedo planes and fighters to attack American carriers. As the American bombers returning to the Yorktown from the attack on the Kido Butai, the radar alerted that Japanese planes on the approach. Bomber planes that had not yet landed on the Yorktown, turned to intercept the Japanese; killing ten and two others were taken out by anti-aircraft firing. The Japanese planes, that were able to get through, made three strikes against the Yorktown.
