Evaluate a CCRC

The five factors that are most important in choosing a CCRC for my loved ones would be lifestyle within the CCRC, the levels of healthcare, the cost of living at the CCRC, the distance from loved ones, and dining services. I personally feel that these are the most important factors in determining a CCRC for loved ones, because you want them to feel comfortable in every shape and form at this new community. I would be picking this location with my grandmother in mind. I believe The Amsterdam at Harborside and Jefferson’s Ferry are the top to choices.
My grandmother has lived in New York City for her entire life, so I narrowed down to locations that are within New York so the location would not be too far for her. The Amsterdam at Harborside is located in Port Washington,

This hits one of the factors “ distance from loved ones”. The Amsterdam at Harborside is about 50 minutes away from my parent’s house and Jefferson’s Ferry is about 15 mins away from their house. Clearly, one location is way closer but both being under and hour is still acceptable. The “lifestyle within the community” is also very important. My grandmother is very independent still at the age of 87 and lives by herself. The two CCRCs I chose both offer independent living. The Amsterdam mentioned on their website under independent living 24 hour emergency call system and monitoring. This is perfect to ease the mind of my parents. They both offer a numerous amount of amenities, many which are the same such as wellness plans, woodworking shop, billiards, indoor pools and more. Some of the services are different such as The Amsterdam has weekly housekeeping and Jefferson’s has bi-weekly housekeeping instead. I did notice that Jefferson’s Ferry has more to offer listed on their website. The levels of healthcare are very important in case something happens to your loved one.
