Cerebral Palsy is a condition where a person’s brain is damaged or never properly developed and affects the patient’s motor control and nervous system.(WebMd) Cerebral Palsy also known as “CP” is usually diagnosed before, during, or usually within the first five years of life, although no one has found a cure or cause for this condition. If an adult is diagnosed with CP they must have suffered from a traumatic accident to enforce enough brain damage to be irreversible. In the mid 1800’s Dr. William John Little began to discover cerebral palsy and first announced the discovery during a lecture at the Obstetrical Society of London, and shortly after published a book entitled “The Cerebral Palsies of Children”. Most symptoms for CP are; seizures, problems swallowing, shall or weak cry, unusual body positions, jaundice, no verbal skills,extreme muscle tightness, lazy eye, etc... CP foundations and research efforts have yet to discover a cure, but have found many adaptations to help the patient be more comfortable. While jaundice usually only occurs when the baby is born, they send home heating blankets to help the baby return to normal pigment. Most doctors just prescribe medicine to help prevent seizures from occurring. Symptoms of cerebral palsy tend to change over the years and most symptoms such as seizures and jaundice subside with age, and the brain damage is non-progressive, which mean it won’t progressively worsen over time. Not everyone with cerebral palsy require the same treatments, for example, many patients require feeding tubes, assistant technology, while others can be spoon fed and just require therapy. To help the mobility of the patient they must go through therapy throughout their lives. For example, many doctors recommend horseback riding to help provide motions and move rotation in their hips.
