I am pursuing a career in the field of Psychology, specializing in therapy for mental disorders in adolescents and adults. Though my previous job experience doesn’t correlate directly with this career path, I have still gained valuable skills from each which I will be able to take with me in life and work. I have recently become a Registered Nursing Assistant, and will soon gain my certification to become a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). This new job will help better prepare me for caring and understanding people as well as observing the effects of mental illness, which are prevent in the elderly.

Patient: When caring for children as well as the elderly, possessing patience and understanding is vital for giving proper care.
Problem-solver: There were many problems that arose at the hotel I worked at, and I often found myself coming up with solutions and self-starting projects to improve the work environment and better serve guests.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills: Working at jobs where various forms of communication were vital helped me gain excellent communication skills. At the Larkspur, every guest complaint or incident had to be documented and properly formatted, sometimes requiring additional documentation such as emails and incident reports along with verbal communication to coworkers, maintenance, housekeeping, and management.
Passion for caring: Working with the elderly and children has sparked my passion to care for people and my desire to help whenever possible.
Skills in American Sign Language: I am at an intermediate level of competency with American Sign Language from experience taking classes in high school and college.
