Cesar Chavez: Film Analysis

Over the past few weeks we have been talking about different public figures and how they fought for their civil rights. We talked about MLK and Cesar Chavez, what they fought for and why they fought. While we watched the movie we had to choose if the director effectively uses specific shot for certain scenes or if he doesn’t. Well after taking notes and and observing the story, there is a logical statement and that is the director specifically chose certain angles and lighting techniques to show the mood of the story. Here is some evidence.

There was one scene in the middle of the movie where there farm worker that were barricading themselves in their houses. After this scene Cesar, Dolores, and others were sitting outside talking about what happened and there was this shot that was of Dolores face and there was lighting on half of her face showing there was something bad/mysterious happening. Which there was, there was those workers that were in the house. Going with this shot goes along with what was happening showing the emotions of these people and how the situation was being handled.

There was also this scene were Dolores was discussing with someone about how the people were going to give on the boycott so they had to act fast and do something soon before they lost all their people. In this scene they had Dolores in between 2 fence

To show their emotions and how they acted during this boycott. Which he did a good job portraying their feelings and emotions with the lighting and shot angles. The main idea for this story portrayed in the film is “The barriers in the way of you path are just obstacles and the more people you have to help you get over that obstacle the easier it will be, and not matter how long it will take you, you will eventually get over it.” The director did a good job showing that this was what we were supposed to learn while watching
