“What the Future Holds for Farm Workers and Hispanics” is a speech written and delievered by Cesar Chavez on November 9, 1984 at The Commonwealth Club of California. The intended audience of his speech were the farmworkers, citizens, chairholders, officials, and lawmakers of California and across the United States. Cesar Chavez, the president of United Farm Workers of America, aimed to persuade his audience to fight for the struggling farmworker community. Chavez wanted the audience to acknowledge the struggle of Hispanic Americans, and help to uplift their communities. The central idea of the speech is ceasing the unfair farm labor system, which has the strongest affect on working-class Hispanic Americans.

First, Ceasar Chavez begins his speech his speech with an emotional appeal. He recalls an incident involving 32 farm workers who were killed in an accident with their bodies eft unidenitfied for days. In the same fashion, he informs the audience of the common struggles and savagery that farm workers endure on daily basis. Next, Chavez tells the audience about his personal and primitive goal to cease the unfair farm labor system. He explains his relization that Latinx farmworkers needed to organize in order to progress as a people. With this intention, he encourages more Chicanos to become legal U.S. citizens, register to vote, and train to organize, educate, and uplift other Chicanos.
