On January 28, 1986, America lost 7 of the greatest people we know; Greg Jarvis, Christa McAuliffe, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Judith Resnik, Michael J. Smith, and Dick Scobee. But, every bad beginning births an amazing ending. Without this terrible disaster, the Challenger Learning Center would never have come to be. Our motto, “Working together, we can take the first step in our journey and shine!” Is the best way we can think of to honor these 7 heroes, other than completing this mission with giant hearts and open minds. We hope to honor these people through our badge as well. The focus point of our badge is the comet, representing the focus point of our mission, comet Encke. In the 7 flames of the comet, we have each of the initials of the Challenger 7. We also have 7 stars, for each of the souls lost in this accident. In the top left, we have a shooting star with NASA in the center. This signifies that every space mission in America has been rooted to NASA. We also have this on both wings of the shuttle, because without NASA, we would have no way to soar into space. Also on the shuttle, is SMS, our school, Skyview Middle School. Without the help from these two amazing programs, our crew would not be able to succeed as we have. The round American flag represents the moon, and how America took the first steps on it.
