With the story of the Odyssey by Homer, being relatable with many other people's lives, it makes people think, how is my life like that of Odysseus’. Throughout this essay, the story will be described and compared to my life. The challenges that Odysseus faces in his journey will somehow relate to my life, and the challenges I face, not just right now, but maybe later. At the beginning of the Odyssey, Odysseus is sitting beside his wife Penelope as she is going through labor. The baby is then born, followed by despair the next day. Two men come to Odysseus, requesting his help along side of them in battle. He of course accepts and embarks on a long journey to Troy. It's smooth sailing all the way there. Another example that ties to that would be a boss having you go somewhere for work and not seeing your family for a while. After Odysseus is done battling, and on his way home he runs into things that he’s cocky and jumps the gun about, much like some people in the real world. This story also has good examples of getting carried away and becoming addicted to things. Things like that would be the island with the lotus flowers that make you lose your train of thought, much like two of Odysseus’ crew mates did. Another time would be when the goddess tricked them into staying by offering them good housing and food.
Throughout the paper the topic, what is similar about an average joe’s life, and Odysseus’ life? Parts of the book were taken and thought about in a way that it could make sense in someone who lived in todays life. The life that Odysseus has to deal with is definitely a stressful one.
