Chapter Summary: Lyddie In The United States

Chapter 1: Lyddie is a 13 year old girl from Vermont. When she was making a porridge, a bear came into her house and caused a ruckus and went back to the forest. Then Lyddie’s mother goes to her sister’s farm because she thinks that the end of the world is near. But Lyddie mother sends Lyddie and Charlie to go to work so that they can pay off their debt.

Chapter 2: Lyddie and Charlie sold their calf to Mr. Quacker. They ate dinner with the Quaker’s family. Luke said that he would take care of the farm and sometimes visit Charlie. Then, Luke took Lyddie to the tavern and Charlie to the mill.

Chapter 3: Lyddie arrives at the tavern and she meets Mistress Cutler and Triphena. She gets in a close relationship with Triphena. The conditions in

Charlie told her that the farm is going to be sold and the proceeds are gonna be with Judah. Charlie also gives Lyddie a letter from Luke. The letter says that he bought the farm and proposes marriage. Lyddie misunderstood that he’s buying her also so she rips the letter and cried.

Chapter 19: Because Diana didn’t look that well, so Lyddie decided to sign the petition but then she couldn’t sign it because the petition has been already passed on. Diana tells Lyddie that she’s gonna have a baby. But then the doctor had a relationship with iis already married so she is going to Boston to get a job.

Chapter 20: Now everyone knows that Diana left the factory. Lyddie is teaching Brigid how to read and write and she is learning fast. Charlie sent a letter to Lyddie considering about the proposal of Luke Stevens and how she needs a companion. Lyddie finds out that her mom died through a letter that someone sent. Brigid was with Mr.Marsden and Lyddie saved her from that guy.

Chapter 21: Lyddie got dismissed because an agent came to see Lyddie and said that she was considered as a troublemaker and a moral
