In the story a separate peace by John Knowles two boys named Gene and Finny are friends in a military school during the 1940’s. they are both very different from each other and it all seems to work out for them. After reading the first few chapters of the book you realize that Finny is competitive, bold, a leader, athletic, and quite childish. Whereas Gene is Not so athletic, more of an introvert, and a follower. But later, as the book goes on you realize that the two are not really as compatible as you may think at first. Later in the middle of the story the two disagree more and it is because Gene thinks Finny is superior and he becomes jealous. Competition in a relationship leads to jealousy and jealousy leads to destruction.
