Are we playing God by using genetic modification? Many people don't care about genetic modification when they don't know the risk behind it. In the futuristic novel, For Darkness Shows the Stars, the author Diana Peterfreund wrote this genetic enhancement called, ERV. The enhancement started a series of wars destroying most technology. Luddites believed to not take the ERV, because it conflicted with their godly beliefs. Those who decided to change themselves called "The Lost". When the Lost had children, they weren't normal. The had one syllable names because of that. After the Luddites heard of the up-coming wars they retreated underground. Just when they thought the ERV was gone, Luddites weren't supposed to do anything with God's creation change or enhance it. When the main character, Elliot North begins breaks her protocols, was she really helping or harming the earth? Elliot North's friend, Ro knows how to graft flowers, like we do with our crops. About 90% of plants in the United States is genetically modified in some sort. If we could have abundant food that didn't get affected by disease or drought or flooding with just a flip of a genetic switch, how could that be bad?
