Everyone wants to be remembered and leave a lasting impact on the world. All people hold the power to become something special, few possess the bravery to not be ordinary like everyone else. Haroun the protagonist of Haroun and the Sea of Stories, is a typical young kid who wants happiness for himself and family. When this happiness is taking away, Haroun the the ordinary diminutive boy becomes a heroic man who sacrifices his life in order to save the love for his father, stories, and happiness. Nothing is ever expected of Haroun, an only child living in the sad city of Alifbay. All Rashid’s happiness ends though when Haroun asks, “What’s the use of stories that aren’t even true”(Rushdie, 27). These words crush Rashid, and take away his ability to tell his amazing stories. Haroun Recognizes how impactful these words are to his father, and assumes responsibility to find a way to get his father back to his normal self. Haroun assuming the responsibility of fixing his fathers problem is the first glimpse of Haroun transforming from this ordinary boy. Haroun with his father embark on a adventure led not by the famous story teller Rashid Khalifa, but his young determined son. Haroun journey leads him to Dull Lake where his father is expected to tell an amazing story to the people of Dull Lake. Haroun is worried about what will happen when Rashid will have to tell his story. The night before the speech Rashid and Haroun are placed in a luxurious guess house, which is another sign of the high expectations for Rashid to tell an amazing story. Haroun and Rashid both struggle to sleep, and while laying anxiously in bed Haroun here’s noises in the bathroom. Haroun building friendships with people on his journey to Gup city, show’s Haroun’s belief in everything that his father has previously told him about the different worlds. Haroun when traveling becomes familiar with how the sea of stories is being killed from the Chupwalas who are in war with the Guppes. hearing that the sea of stories which is the creator of all new stories is getting destroyed, this inspires Haroun even more. Haroun’s love for stories and his fathers ability to tell them is what makes Haroun want to find out more information about the war between the Guppies and Chupwalas. Eventually, Haroun gets to Gup City where he wants to speak to explain to the Walrus why his father needs his water supply back. When in Gup city Haroun surprisingly finds his father Rashid, who is being called a fraud and a spy. Haroun tries to explain that Rashid isn’t a spy and that all he wants is his water supply which gives him the ability to tell stories. Haroun and Rashid are useless to the people of Gup city. Haroun is a child, who has done nothing special in his world to earn the respect of others. This negative perspective people have for Haroun changes when Haroun say he will put his life on the line to fight the Chupwalas and it’s leader. The Gup people didn’t think Haroun had any reason to put his life on the line. Blabbermouth says to Haroun, “Your father’s
