Character Analysis: How Eric's Choices Affected Paul In Tangerine

It can take one single person in your life to change the way you think about yourself, but also the way you live. Erik’s choices affected Paul in many different ways, good and bad. So many characters in the novel, not only Paul had to face many hardships and challenges. In the novel Tangerine, Paul has to try really hard to stand up for his fears and become a strong individual both inside and out. Every choice comes with a consequence; either good or bad.Erik's choices affected Paul in many different ways, but the consequences for Erik weren’t so good. On page 263 and 264 Paul had a flashback, one that brought a lot of sadness, hatred, and many more crazy emotions, “Then I felt Erik grab me from behind, easily pinning both of my arms with one of his.I could hear my voice crying 'I didn't do it! I didn't do it!' And I remember Erik's fingers prying my eyelids open while Vincent Castor sprayed white paint on them.” This shows why Paul is visually impaired. This scene made Paul feel sad because he could have been seeing fine like everybody else, he did not have to be “the guy in glasses” or Mars or Eclipse Boy or so many other names that people called him. Paul told his parents about this and from that day on everything changed. On page 263 Paul told his Parents “ I am alright. I'm more than alright. Finally.” The way Paul said that was very powerful because it was the one time that he finally got to stand up for himself. He became a lot stronger he wasn't as afraid of Erik anymore and that was a huge change. This section of the book made Paul change the way he thinks and remembering this scene was very significant for
