Within the story, Our Eyes Were Watching God, we see that Janie Crawford was a woman on a quest for self- awareness. She endeavored many challenges but in the end, she overcame them. Janie evolved from being a diffident, imaginative, young lady into a confident, hard-working, and vivacious woman that took chances, enjoyed life, and gained experiences along the way. Throughout her journey, she learns true love and gallantness. Moreover, these experiences aided in her becoming more self- aware as well as the transformation of her becoming a strong, black woman, one that we could learn from.
