A role model is a person to look up to. Someone who has a strong character and will support you no matter what. A role model should be someone that a person can go to for advice, wisdom, and someone who will never judge. In the play "A Raisin in the Sun" written by Lorraine Hansberry, there is only one person fit for that role. That person is Lena Younger. Lena Younger is the best role model in the play because she is a strong independent woman who would do anything for her family. Her character is someone to admire because she stands for what she believes in, due to her faith and optimism for life.
This play shows a lot about Lena's character. Like how even though she lived in a run- down apartment struggling with poverty, she held her head up high and maintained her dignity. She supported her children even when they made the wrong decisions. When Lena received $10 000 dollars in insurance money from her deceased husband, she decided to fulfill her lifelong dream by buying a house. She gave the remaining money to her children to fulfill their dreams as well because she knows her children are capable

When Ruth, Lena's daughter- in- law got pregnant and she found out, she stepped out of the picture and let Ruth tell her husband the news. Not because she didn’t care, it is because she did not want to interfere with their relationship. And that is the type of person she is.
From all the points that were stated throughout this essay, it is clearly shown that Hansberry created an award-winning character that not only represents leadership but also wisdom. Lena Younger was thoughtfully displayed as a strong courageous woman that exceptionally family-oriented. She overcame unbearable struggles but sustained her hope.
