Mrs. Fisher makes a lot choices that affects the development of Paul Fisher’s character. In Tangerine by Edward Bloor, Mrs. Fisher, the main character's mother, has a tough time figuring out what is best for her youngest son Paul. Unfortunately, it turns out she makes the wrong choices which causes a significant amount of change in Paul’s life. These changes were not exactly for the better, causing Paul to be angry and upset with her due to of all the mistakes she makes. Paul is already going through a rough patch in his life, and Mrs. Fisher was making it worse for him. He has to move from Houston, Texas to Tangerine, Florida, has to go to a brand new school, and most of all, and he has to face his older, intimidating brother Erik. The choices made by Mrs. Fisher, and the consequences of those choices, affect the development of Paul’s character.

Fisher lied to Paul about the true reason he is legally blind. The reason she lied to him is because she didn’t want to ruin the bond of her two sons, but it’s already too late for that. It is known that the reason for Paul’s bad eyesight is because he looked at the sun during a solar eclipse. Paul was bullied in kindergarten by his brother and his friends being called “eclipse boy” and he was also laughed at by others. “So there i sat on that yellow school bus- Erik Fisher’s younger brother, Eclipse Boy, visually impaired and totally incapable of following in his brother’s footsteps.”(35) Mrs.Fisher diminished Erik and Paul’s relationship, pushing them even further away from each other. Later in the book she realizes what she’s done was completely wrong. Things do not always turn out as planned. A lie always will eventually come back to haunt you as it did Mrs. Fisher. Paul’s mother knows she has done wrong and will never lie or keep anything from Paul again because now she sees how it affects him so
