Character Analysis: The Dumas Family

The Dumas family immigrated to America prior to the political upheaval in Iran, their home country. Without a doubt, they did not know what to expect upon their arrival in California. It’s almost like switching schools. The anxiety is always there, but the excitement is too. Making friends is and living a new lifestyle is difficult, so who wouldn’t be nervous? Luckily, the Dumas family has nothing but positivity when it comes to analyzing their past years in America. “We remember the kindness more than ever, knowing that our relatives who immigrated to this country after the Iranian revolution did not encounter the same America”(Dumas, 92). Unfortunately, a number of their relatives were not able to experience America like they did. While they were there they dealt with racism and weren’t welcomed in the country new to them. To say that leaving your friends and people you’re comfortable with to go and meet new ones is easy is crazy. However, in a way, it teaches many things. For one, it teaches that not everything in life is going to go your way, but it’s important to make the best of it. Sometimes we have to do things that we don’t prefer, but making the most of every bad situation is extremely important. What’s the point of dreading it. You never know what might come out of it. It’s only awful if you make it awful. When her family immigrated, right away she adapted and made a handful of new friends, as did her family. Going through change with your family definitely brings you closer together. When you’re scared or sad, or just having a rough time your family will always be there to help and support you no matter what.
