Character Analysis: The Furries

“The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique.” (Walt Disney). As a child, you are taught to be yourself and not listen to what anyone says about you. The Furries are a chief illustration of this philosophy. Within The Furries’ group, no one is afraid to be who they want to be, even if it does mean being judged. How people think about these people does not get in their way. The clothes they wear, the language they use, and how they act are all very different from a normal person at Alpena High School. The Furries are just like us anatomically, not so much mentally.

First on the list of the Furries odd behaviors is, clothes. Normally, people wear jeans and a nice shirt with matching accessories to school; this is an uncommon sight for The Furries. Mix-matched clothes are more their style. On a daily basis, one is capable of catching a Furry wearing older looking, brightly colored shirts accompanied by either a pair of jeans, yoga pants, or a skirt. They speak in English, and, nevertheless, a lot of what they are speaking about cannot be understood. Slang is repeatedly used in the high school; however, the slang spoken by The Furries is not easily understood. Anime is frequently discussed by The Furries. Without the understanding of Anime, they sound like they are talking in a foreign language mixed with English. Artwork is also a topic of conversation between these students. While listening in the morning, it is easy to overhear that artwork is a large part of their lives. Student D was discussing his painting that he was doing in art class with Student E.
