In The Glass Castle, by Jeannette Walls, you see a unique relationship between Rex and Jeannette. She is idolizes him and to her can do no wrong. To her, he is brilliant man who has a great understand of the world and science. But to an outside, Rex Walls in a no good alcoholic who goes out of his way to burden and harm his family. As the book progresses, you realizes that under Rex’s simple shell is a complicated and conflicted. man. It's hard to understand why Jeannette does not see her father for who really as Jeannette is a smart and competent young girl.

Reading and reflecting on this came extremely easily to as I have a strong relationship with my father as well but it also raised a point of concern. Do we as children refuse to view
