The characters in The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, experience unpleasant treatment throughout the novel and question if any of them feel they have self-worth. During The Dust Bowl, many civilians found trouble trying to find jobs and Steinbeck telling the Joads’ story about struggling really gives the image of how difficult the 1930’s. In California, the work filled with people already and back in Oklahoma, the Joads already struggled enough abandoning their old life. Fighting with not having a job and desiring a new life definitely affects the families worth and dignity.
