Being an immigrant is very hard, moving from your family and all your memories. There are 3 challenges I have chose. First, Esperanza did not know how to do daily chores because she had always had servants. Next, The dust storms caused mama to become sick with Valley Fever. Last, Esperanza had to work in the fields and take care of mama. Esperanza Ortega from Esperanza Rising is a 12 year old girl who is forced to leave her rich life. She is now poor and living with lots of challenges. During this life a huge tragedy occured in their family.

The first challenge Esperanza faces is Esperanza did not know how to daily chores because she had servants. ¨She didn't know what to feed the babies so she fed them plums, But they got very sick¨. This quote means that she always had a servant and didn't know what to do. So she did what she thought but it's wrong. The next quote is ¨Esperanza learns how to do chores. Her parents work but she does not. She had a struggle of sweeping so Miguel had to help her¨. This shows that Esperanza does not know how to use a broom so Miguel helped her.

A quote to explain this is ¨It's only the men in the fields right now¨. This quote means that only the men were working for $ while the women were at home cleaning. So she would be the only women working there for $. The next quote is ¨But your not old enough to work in the sheds¨. The explanation is that she wasn't old enough to work there $.
