The short story, The Rocking Horse Winner is about an unlucky family, that has a stroke of good luck when the son Paul, a young boy that enjoys time on his rocking horse wins a handsome amount of money at the horse races; with the help of his Uncle Oscar, and the Gardener, Bassett. Although, his luck is quickly cut short when he becomes ill after falling off his rocking horse, but not before he making another prediction on what horse would win at the next Derby. Throughout reading the piece, the Rocking Horse Winner I found myself interested by the character Paul.
