Someone does not always have to take away something from someone else in order to receive what they want, especially a life. Cassius had envy and jealousy in his heart, he did not have to act upon it. He is very intelligent, but also gets very jealous and has many selfish qualities.
Cassius was very intelligent and quite a sychophant. He repeatedly used his smarts to get what he wanted. For example, Cassius wrote three letters, each in a different handwriting, for Brutus, which, Cinna placed in each specific place for Brutus to discover. The letters persuaded Brutus to join the mischevious conspirators to give the Roman people what they needed. Cassius knew exactly how Brutus would react because he exceptionally well at reading people. He also knew to send Decius to make sure that Caesar came to the Capitol. Although everyone told Caesar not to attend that day, Cassius told Decius exactly what to say to make him change his mind. He

He did not like being below others or anyone else to have authority over them. He certainly noticed whenever his conspirators picked Brutus or valued Brutus’s opinion over his own. When everyone agreed on the assassination and Brutus wanted to shake on it but Cassius wanted to say an oath, which, made Cassius jealous but he did not act on it. Also Cassius said that they should not only kill Caesar, but take out innocent Marc Antony as well. All of the conspirators look up to Brutus as a leader and care what he thinks more than Cassius. Cassius noticed Brutus’s weaknesses and decided to stay calm to show his authority. Although, not to mention, about the entire assassination of Julius Caesar to gain more power for himself. Julius had promoted Cassius anyway, which, he had not been grateful for at all, he could not stand to be below someone else.
