On the hot day of June 17, 1775, overlooking Boston, on the Charlestown Peninsula, the British lead by Major General William Howe and Brigadier General Robert Pigot defeated the Colonial officer, Colonel William Prescott.

On the day of June 16, having learned the British were planning on moving on Boston, 1.000 militiamen, under control of Colonel William Prescott, marched to Breed’s Hill and built fortifications out of earth. The militiamen were greatly outnumbered by 1,100. With ammunition supplies low, Colonel William Prescott stated, “don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes.”
