Charlie Gordon's doctors acted ethically when they performed the surgery to make him smarter. What is ethics, you may ask? Ethics is the state of being either right or wrong. For say, ethics can be fairness or either stealing. Ethics almost describes who you are as a person. And also, who is Charlie Gordon? Charlie Gordon is a man with a low I.Q. of 68 and is mentally retarded. He came to the hospital hoping that the doctor's would make him smarter. He didn’t want to be different then all his friends that work with him at the factory. Charlie's doctors acted ethically (in a fair way, to make him smart like his dream goal) when they performed surgery to make him smarter.

The doctors knew much about Charlie from Miss Kinnian. However, you may think Miss Kinnian didn't say much about Charlie to the doctors. She did by using one word "motivation". He had a great motivation to do anything that made him happy (or smarter).
The third rule of ethical decision making is, look at your feelings. Are you happy or not? The doctors wanted to make Charlie happy and themselves so they can find a cure for the mentally retarded. When they do find the cure, they'll make humanity smarter. Charlie can also be happy because he can get to have his life long dream, to be smart. So it's a win-win for both doctors and Charlie.
The doctors acted ethically when they performed Charlie's surgery to make him smarter because of just that. Who doesn't want to be smarter? And Charlie took that chance he always wanted. He loves to be smart, are you grateful that you have this smartness and others do not? Ask yourselves that and think why the doctors acted
