Journal #1 Pages this week: 269 Pages this quarter: 269 I finished reading Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood. The main character in this novel is Charlie; he has a younger brother named Sam who passed away during a freak accident. Charlie meets Tess who is a sailor and is planning on sailing the around the world, but then she mysteriously passes away while she is sailing. In this journal I will be evaluating and questioning.

One night Charlie and his brother Sam get in an accident, the paramedics try to save Charlie and his brother but they only succeed in saving Charlie. After that night Charlie was able to see spirits, so he made a promise to Sam that every night before the sun goes down they will throw a baseball and talk together like old times. Charlie was running late one night and when he got to the baseball field to meet Sam, Sam was fading away at the edges. Charlie knew right then that he would never miss another night with Sam. The cemetery in their small town of Waterside was near Charlie’s cottage and the baseball field, so Charlie decided he would work as a caretaker for the cemetery. This way he would never again miss a night with Charlie. As the novel progresses Charlie and Sam both realize it was almost time to move on from their accident. Since Charlie made the promise to Sam to never leave him, he was not able to live his life without the fear of loosing Sam. This prevented him from getting a job, as a paramedic like he always wanted and he could not travel around the world like he wanted.
