Chasing Lincoln’s Killer, is a wonderful book, filled with: action, adventure, and mystery and there isn’t another book like it. James L. Swanson wrote a book about the manhunt of John Wilkes Booth. John Wilkes Booth was an actor. He was a very determined person. What he needed to do, he got it done. In Chasing Lincoln’s Killer “John Wilkes Booth was willing to do anything to accomplish his goal, he was willing to give away fame, money, and a future for the Confederacy.” (Swanson 10).
John Wilkes Booth was willing to give away fame because he was an actor and when he killed Abraham Lincoln people wouldn’t want to come to his shows.“Handsome and appealing , he was instantly recognizable by thousands of fans in both the North and the South.” (Swanson 10). “Booth was now in the company of three Confederate soldiers.” (Swanson 161). The Union was his enemy and if he got caught that would be the end of him. “If the Union cavalry found them now, they would not be able to make a run for it.” (Swanson 128). Booth had to cross the river by a ferry and it was night. That’s when they traveled. “ And if Thomas Jones abandoned them, how would they find a way to cross the river?” (Swanson 129). It was a very risky trip going from state to state like that. However, some people today still are Confederate. John Wilkes Booth knew that he was going to die. It all happened so quickly. He did it for Himself, the Confederacy, and his friends. He was buried but no one can know where he was buried because there is no headstone. His family was sad. Why would he murder someone. He could’ve kept his acting career. In the end John Wilkes Booth was willing to give away fame, money, and a future for the Confederacy. (Swanson
