Facing The Storm in All of Us.

We are all human. What does that mean exactly? It means that we all have temptations. Whether that be eating that chocolate bar you promised yourself you would not eat, or something more serious as cheating on a spouse. At times these temptations can be difficult to control, and always end up with consequences. If a person has the opportunity to cheat on their spouse, but doesn’t, then it shows they love their significant other enough to honor them. If they do end up cheating, it signifies that they really did not care about the other person. “The Storm” was written in 1899 by Kate Chopin. It is about an unsatisfied woman who has an affair with an old lover. Chopin in this story classifies sex as a joyous event and an essential part of life. As well as in the movie Rumor Has It. In this movie, a woman cheats on her fiancé’ with her father (or so she thought) because it was a spur of the moment situation. Both “The Storm” and Rumor Has It share a common theme. Everyone goes through trials in life, but how they overcome them shows their true character and strength. Kate Chopin was a realist. Both literal and figurative. There is a literal storm when Calixta’s husband Bobinot, and young son Bibi, stay at a supermarket waiting for it to pass. Little did her husband know the storm that awaited him. The figurative storm is demonstrated by Calixta’s affair with an old lover, because he just shows up after a long time of not seeing each other; also they are both unsatisfied in their marriages, which was clearly evident to the reader.
