5..6..7..8..1..2..3..4..5..6..7..8: the counting of a routine drilled into my head from the beginning of time. Growing up with two older sisters who were competitive cheerleaders, naturally I joined competitive cheerleading at a very young age. Truthfully, growing up in a cheer family, I had never considered or thought about any other sport. It wasn’t until about third grade when my family made the move to Orlando and I was introduced to my best friend, Lindsey. From that, I am a changed person. My adventure through discovering myself and what I would eventually come to love began when I fractured my wrist. As a result of fracturing my wrist, when I made my return to cheer, nothing was the same. During every practice after my return, I would cry due to the strenuous pressure that is put on your wrists during tumbling. Eventually, I came to quit cheerleading. When being taught how to play by Lindsey’s dad, he had always told me that juggling will help me to excel as a player. So that is exactly what I did. I began going out in my front yard, practicing juggling for hours at a time. By this time, I was a sucker for the sport. Never in a million years would I have thought I would have quit cheer to play a sport practically foreign to my family. However, to this day, I am in love with soccer. Lindsey had helped me to discover my true passion. Although growing up in a traditionally cheer family, I was able to branch out and rediscover myself after my injury prevented me from being able to continue on with cheerleading. I now am an elite level soccer player, aspiring to play soccer in college. Not only am I grateful for the guidance from Lindsey, it has also taught me that although not everything goes to plan, it all works out in the
