When most people think of cheerleaders they think perky, dumb blondes in short skirts yelling “go team!” The bright lights of a football field, dating a jock, and terrorizing the hallways usually comes to mind when I tell people I cheer. I’ve grown accustomed to the idiotic questions like “who do you cheer for” and “wait you don’t use pom poms?” My cheerleading career started in 6th grade and has become an instrumental piece of my life occupying a large majority of my time. I have always been a part of my school team, but I also enjoy all-star cheerleading. My team and I put in countless hours to travel around the country and perform for two minutes and thirty seconds.
