As we learned in the notes a chemical imbalance occurs when any part of the brains processing become out of balance. The first thing that came to my mind as an example was depression. While depression in some cases can be cause by external situations, clinical depression is thought to be cause by a chemical imbalance because there is a reduced amount of certain neurotransmitters and chemicals such as serotonin. Serotonin plays a key role in many bodily functions but is most known for its link to our happiness and mood. Someone with depression may not have enough receptor sites for the serotonin to be absorbed, the serotonin may not be able to reach those receptors or their brain may simply not produce enough of it.
