Although New England and the Chesapeake region were both settled largely by people of English origin, by 1700 the regions had evolved into two distinct societies. This was caused by the motives for emigration and by the different experiences (economy/geography) that of the different regions. The settlers had different motives for emigrating in the different regions. The settlers that migrated to different places had different experiences (geography/economy) and the way of life was different. The difference in societies in New England and Chesapeake, were because of the different economy, geography, and motives for settling in these places.
