The Outfit (also known as The Chicago Mob, or the Chicago Mafia), was an organization mainly known for Alphonse “Al” Gabriel Capone who was also known as “Scarface”, running it. It was founded around the early 1900s, and was highly recognized during the Prohibition Era in the 1920s. The Outfit was originally ran by Giacomo “Big Jim” Colosimo, who then brought his nephew Giovanni “Papa Johnny” Torrio into the business. Giovanni is the one who then brought Al Capone into the business in 1919 and helped run the business. ("Chicago Outfit." American Mafia History.)
The Outfit had many members in the organization. As Al Capone ran the Outfit, he became one of the most ruthless and known gangsters in Chicago, especially after the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre on Feb. 14, 1929. After Capone completed a testimony on March 27, 1929, he was arrested right after he walked out of the courtroom for contempt of court. After posting a $5,000 bond, he was released. He and a bodyguard were later arrested on May 17, 1929 for carrying concealed weapons in Philadelphia. They were both sentenced within sixteen hours to serve one year each.
