The exposition (World’s Fair of 1893) was made to commemorate Columbus’s discovery of the New World.
The House of Representatives took up the issue of the location of the exposition and considered petitions from Chicago, St. Louis, New York, and Washington, D.C. After months of consideration, the House gave the victory to Chicago on February 24, 1890.
Some of the struggles Daniel Burnham encountered in building the Fair were the declining economy, late work for architect, and union workers striking.
Holmes H. H. Holmes used his skills of manipulation, charm, and deceit to commit several crimes, including forgery, insurance fraud, and murder, along with many more illegal activities.
