As Chief Diversity Officer at Morehead State University, I am very familiar with FERPA, Civil Rights Acts, Americans with Disabilities, FMLA, and Age Discrimination Employment Act. There are actually three people that I have quite a few conversations with. Our legal Counsel, our HR director, and the Dean of Students. My knowledge is a 5.

I tell most students, it is good when they talk with the Dean of Students one on one, and when they talk with me one on one, but if they are having to meet with myself and the Dean of Students at the same time, it is probably not a good conversation. I review grades, financial of students, so there to ensure that FERPA rules and guidelines are followed related to student’s privacy and their rights.

HR and legal counsel have meet to ensure that we are aware on a need to know bases of issues that affect students, staff, and faculty.

I also have had to meet with Student Life, Dean of Students, and police personnel to ensure that the safety of those on campus are protected as we may have visitors on campus, but then also when we have people who may come to the university to speak in a free speech area.
