As you all should know, hunger in America is a dreadful topic that must be addressed whether we like it or not. There has always been hunger in America, even when the pilgrims first step foot on our land. Although, many kind people have tried to put an end to hunger. That said, the human population still knows that it is near impossible to diminish hunger completely. There are many different parts to hunger that most people don’t realize. Today the topics of hunger are child hunger and senior hunger. The most commonly acknowledged type of hunger is child hunger. According to the No Kid Hungry Organization website, 1 in 5 American children do not get the food they need. That means that over six million children in the United States are struggling with hunger ( No Kid Hungry Organization website). Based on the NKHO, 19% of Connecticut’s children suffer from food insecurity. Although, the NKHO is working very hard and efficiently to decrease or hopefully diminish that percentage. Many adults are forced to face hunger. The Feeding America Organization states that even our own county, Fairfield County has over 103,020 people with food insecurity, which is 11.1% of the population in Fairfield County! Yes, that is undoubtedly terrible, but that is certainly not all. The overall amount of people suffering from food insecurity in America is 49,078,000, which is 15.8% of the American population! Although, the FAO has been doing many helpful projects to shrink that number, such as the 100 million meals challenge. The FAO has teamed up with best- selling author, Tony Robbins. He has donated 50 million meals to Feeding America. Now, the challenge is, for America to help turn it into a million meals by donating 50 million, just like Tony.
