Stephen gardiner stated, “The industrial revolution was another of those extraordinary jumps forward in the story of civilization”. During the industrial revolution era in 1865 to 1914 the development of new machines was an efficient source that got work done faster. However, for many workers the industrialization had a negative experience. During the Industrialization era child labor was a dilemma because they would be exploited with work and they would be working with big dangerous machines. The working conditions lead to disabilities and health problems. Also the bosses would put their workers in unsafe positions by locking the exists and often take advantage of them. In document E a photographer, Lewis W. Hine documented pictures of young children working in the United States in 1908-1912. He took these pictures to demonstrate the working conditions of children. In one picture two kids are not only not wearing any safety equipment but they are also barefoot. The fact that they were children did not matter to the boss, the job conditions remained the same. The poor working conditions led to disabilities among the workers mostly children who were unprepared and not protected. Children were not be able to act like children because being a full time worker took m ost of their time. The only reason why companies hired children was to save money because children didn’t really ask for a lot. In document H, An act to enforce the educational rights of children, California statutes in 1919 provided information of the law enforcement making a change to prohibit children under the age of 16 to work and all children are forced to go to school. “Minors at the age of 16 years and under the age of 18 may not be employed.” This was effective because it was the end of child labor. It permitted children to act like the children they were and being able to get their education done. The low wage pay caused many families members to be disrupted and be unstable financially. It also made it really hard for workers to get out of poverty . In How other half lives (document C) Jacob Riis, displays photographs of immigrant families in 1980. The pictures were taken for the library congress prints and photographs division to show the unacceptable living conditions that these families were living on. The pictures shows a room full of clutter and it looks unventilated because there were no windows. I have the impression that people were not living comfortable because it shows a lot of people in one small room . The places that they would live in were dirty and tight. They would have up to 10 People living in one small room. This became a problem to the workers because they were working a whole day to try and support their family but companies made it impossible. Workers then realized how they were being taking advantage of created labor unions to demand a change. In the book History alive by teachers curriculum institute in 2008 shows 3 different national labor organizations. Labor union organization was created to show the students the different type of goals that each union had. These 3 different organizations demanded different rights but used the same strategies. The organization industrial workers of the world had a goal that would
