Childhood obesity is a detrimental force in American society and more resource should be invested to eradicate it. As the first generation in my family to be born in America, my sister, my cousins, and I have a lot to live up for in my family. We have everything from grades, appearance, and attitude to meet our families’ expectations. However we also have the vast difference of culture of Vietnam and America to compensate for. For example, the diet and environment over here is greatly different from Vietnam so when my cousin weighted the most in my entire family at the age of 17, it was a terrible experience for all of us. No one in our entire family had any idea how to deal with all the illness and medication that came from being obese, and seeing my cousin, the person I had grown up with, like that frightened me into doing everything I could to avoid what happened to him.
Childhood obesity is a detrimental force in American society and more resource should be invested to eradicate it. The people in our community now look upon obesity as something that should never be pointed out and never even acknowledged. It’s something that would be considered very rude to help or give solutions to it. In fact it’s now almost become the norm, where the ones that are too skinny or small is made fun of endlessly, but those that are obese are never once mentioned. It has come to the point where most people that are obese don’t believe that it is even a problem.
