In the United States healthcare costs related to childhood obesity reach about $14 billion every year. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 6 children and adolescents in the United States are affected by obesity. Obesity is such a big issue because it can lead to illnesses, some that are very severe and deadly, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and even cancer. Kids should be worrying about what game to play not when their next doctor appointment is. If obesity can be stopped at a young age it may also be able to raise our life expectancy as a whole because according to Blank Children’s Hospital obesity could actually result in reducing average life expectancy by about 5 years over the next several decades.

It also helped communities establish local farm to school networks, creating school gardens, and ensured that more local foods are used in the school setting. This act set many restrictions on school food, instead of making food favorites healthier it completely took out some lunch favorites because they were not “healthy” enough, it completely disappointed many students to see all these sudden changes. This act did not allow for students to make their own choices and instead forced this change on to them. From personal experience I saw some student’s rebel and choose not to eat or eat very little at school and instead eat a lot more at home, almost like binge eating. Although it created better eating options for students a way to do this but get the students involved would be better so that they have fun and get excited to eat
