The step that must be taken in the first 90 days of enrollment is to address the child’s strengths and needs. According to DHHS (2009) developmental and sensory screenings are done to determine the child’s health status. This could include but not limited to immunizations and home visits. The screenings include vision and hearing as well as cognitive and perceptual skills. These screenings are important to a child’s educational plan because it gives the teachers the opportunity to catch any disabilities early. Motor and language screenings are also done which allows the center to refer students for early and regular preventive care whether its mental health or well care visits.
