Chocolate, something almost everyone loves as a small snack. The savory and addicting treat can come across as an easily made candy, however, it is easy to oversee the work put into harvesting this crop. So many require more people to work, most of which demand money to work for the farmers. However, many cocoa farmers in Africa do to have enough money to get simple things like fertilizer, let alone a worker. However, it is a growing trend to see children working on farms in Africa, some working for the famers whiles others as slaves. Kids are used as almost cheap workers, and are being persuaded to go to these popular parts of cocoa making in search of getting better jobs and getting into careers they hope for in many parts of Africa. Examples can be Boromo in Côte d’Ivoire, Ibrahim Traoré in the Ivory Coast, and Oussou Kwaku in Abidjan. …show more content…
Boromo lived in a small village with his parents. Boromo met a guy who told him about Côte d’Ivoire, and was told how beautiful the country is and that he would earn lots of money. Although he did not have enough money to take a bus ride to Côte d’Ivoire, the man offered to pay for his trip and offered Boromo a job at a cocoa farm. He later found that that was a terrible idea, and was forced to work in unsanitary conditions with little care. He even got cut with a machete, and did not receive any care.
