For this assignment, I reached Chinatown to assess its transportation. The day and time I visited was November 5th, 2015 at 8:45 AM, 4:30 PM, 9:15 PM. Chinatown is a heavily trafficked area. From morning to rush hours, there will always be traffic until it reaches nighttime. With on-going maintenance such as water, road, sewer, construction and TTC repairs, it will cause daily traffic chaos within the area and drivers will have a longer travel time to their destination (Toronto Sun, 2014). When major events are present such as the Toronto Chinatown Festival , major streets such as Dundas West will inevitably be closed down between Spadina Avenue and Beverly Street (The Globe and Mail, 2014) The most used form of transportation is by streetcar. There is also a high circulation of cars in this area. To confirm this theory, I have examined cars circulating the area between the times specified above. However, if TTC streetcar is out of service, TTC will deploy buses as a replacement. An example would be TTC performing maintenance on the track at St. Patrick station or Spadina Station. There are no subway stops nearby since both stations are out of the BIA’s boundaries. There are a few streetcar routes in Chinatown. These are 317 Spadina Avenue running north and south to Spadina Station, 510 Spadina Avenue running north and south to Spadina Station, 505 Dundas running east and west to Broadview Station. There is also dedicated bike lanes that run along north and south of Spadina Avenue. There are no bike lanes located on Dundas Street West.
