Chipotle Mexican Grill is widely known for its large burritos, assembly line serving style, and use of natural ingredients. Their menu consists of burritos, burrito bowls, hard and soft shell tacos, salads, and chips. Chipotle first opened in 1993 in Denver, Colorado by Steve Ells. Steve Ells started Chipotle because he wanted to make a lot of money for a fancy, fine dining restaurant, but ended making a multi-billion-dollar fast food restaurant industry that rewrote the fast food industry. Subway is a sandwich fast food restaurant that has access to a fresh line-up of vegetables for their made-to-order sandwiches and salads at more than 44,700 franchised locations in the world. Their prices are generally average compared to most restaurant meals being around $7-11 for their burritos/bowls, which can be very large, and their tacos starting at around $2-3. Each customer on average spends $9.81 according to Forbes.com. Chipotle has grown from one restaurant in Denver, Colorado to many in North America and Europe with as many as 2,450 stores today. One of the reasons Chipotle has been thought to grow so much was the investment that McDonalds put into it in 1999, but ended up making an agreement with Steve Ells and they parted ways in 2006. Chipotle is not currently its highest it was in 2015 on the NYSE stock exchange at 749.12, but is starting to increase from being down 370.08 in 2016 to 486.86 today. Their market capitalization is $13.1 billion and their market power is currently ranked #39 as of May 2016.
