Choices creates who you are. Stories are the human way to express their ideas and inform others about what they idealize. From the cave paintings on the walls in the stone ages to modern literature, on a book or a tablet. But to create a story there must be some sort of struggle internal or external. This is because the human life cannot be lived without some sort of difficulty or choice that one must overcome. Khaled Hosseini’s novel The Kite Runner uses Amir and Assef’s conflict to demonstrate the idea that choices made early on in life can predetermine ones personality for the future, unless one makes the effort to change.

Looking at conflict one is able to see clear contrasts on how Amir faces and how he responds to the conflict in his past and his present. One of the clearest examples of his growth are the events in chapters seven and chapter twenty two. In chapter seven, Hassan in raped by Assef. In chapter twenty two Sohrab, Hassan’s son and Amir’s half-nephew, is introduced and it is discovered that he was also sexually harassed by Assef. The two events are very similar, but Amir’s reaction are distinctly different. During Hassan's rape, Amir was too cowardly to do anything physically to help his friend in fear of endangering himself. After Hassan’s rape, Amir also didn’t help his friend emotionally as he refused to acknowledge the rape or comfort Hassan. The reader is easily able to identify his reaction as an act of cowardice. But looking at Amir’s background and childhood, some other factors can contribute to why his reaction was so. Amir lived a relatively easy and happy life before Hassan’s rape. He had no major issues or
