I believe that Chris Andersen did the right thing to suggest using the hospital telephone service. The textbook explains that professional medical interpreters are the greatest source for interpretation in the health care setting (Osborne, 2013, p. 81). Professional interpreters are specially trained in medical terminology and know that as a professional the interpreter should be unbiased; professionals must also maintain confidentiality and not input personal views (Osborne, 2013, p. 81, 82). Chris Anderson is keeping his patience’s privacy by requesting the translator service.
It was not appropriate to include the housekeeper for several reasons. The housekeeper although helpful, is not necessarily obligated to follow the code of conduct as a translator. The code of conduct focuses on accuracy, proficiency, cultural

If Voskie was correctly translating the questions, I would be more open to having the sister translate because the book explains, it is important for families and friends to act as advocates if asked to be one by the patient (Osborne, 2013, p. 31). The patient may have the family member there to help her; however, the patient also deserves to have the option to answer the doctor’s questions if she chooses to. In this example, the doctor asks Voskie to translate his questions about the possibility of pregnancy and she shook her head and said that Yeraz was not pregnant. By not translating this information, Voskie is taking away Yeraz’s ability to answer if she wants. I think Chris should allow Voskie to remain in the room during the telephone interpreting service, but she should serve as an advocate rather than answering Yeraz’s questions for her. I think by keeping her sister in the room Yeraz will feel more comfortable and Chris will still be to communicate the information and questions to Yeraz through the telephone
