Tragic hero according to Aristotle is a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her own destruction. A tragic hero comes from a noble/high stature, has a tragic flaw which leads to a reversal of fortune or downfall, his or her actions result improved self-awareness and self-knowledge and experiences a spiritual or literal death. Chris Brown fulfills most of the criteria of a tragic hero due to his rise to fame and obtaining a high stature, his tragic flaw of aggression and his improved self-awareness and self-knowledge of his actions.
To be a tragic hero, one must be of noble/high stature. Chis Brown had achieved a status of high stature by a young age. After signing with Jive Records at the age of 15, he stormed the Pop and R&B charts with his self-titled debut album, eventually selling 3 million copies worldwide. (www.biography.com) He received total of 15 Grammy nominations and won one for best R&B album for FAME. While many of his songs have a hip-hop influence, Brown's voice has a classic R&B sound. He became his own worst nightmare. Like his father who he loathed, he attacked his partner. Upon realizing what had occurred, against the advice of his lawyers, he released a two-minute video on YouTube apologizing to fans and Rihanna for the assault, expressing the incident as his deepest regret and saying that he has repeatedly apologized to Rihanna and accepts full responsibility. Brown entered anger management rehab to seek help to ensure what had occurred will never happen again, “I intend to live m life so that I am truly worth the term role model”, (www.cbsnews.com) though his fans were shocked to hear the news, they supported him as he went through dark times. His actions resulted in improved self-awareness and got him to realize he needs to better himself because of the many fans that look up to
