A romantic hero is a literary archetype referring to a character that rejects the established norms, wants happiness within themselves and has rejected society. To reject the established norms, means to to reject the usual standards of life established by the people around you. Chris rejects the established norms by going to live alone in the woods without any money, food, clothes, or any idea where he is going to stay. Chris finds pleasure in nature, he was raised by parents who loved to go camping and Chris enjoyed camping to. Christopher Johnson McCandless has a lot of flaws and may be seen as a foolish idiot but he wasn’t he was a romantic hero, because he rejected the established norms, he had a free spirit, he chose the road less traveled, he was also very personable. he rejected society and he wants happiness.

Chris McCandless is seen as a romantic hero because he rejected the established norms by he had given $25000 to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself.
